 Its sole job is stopping reverse flow, and here's how: Designed like a door that only swings one way, the two spring-loaded discs open easily for forward flow. But when flow stops, the springs slam this "door" shut incredibly fast. If fluid tries to flow backwards, it pushes against the closed discs. This backward pressure, combined with the spring force, wedges the discs firmly against their sealing surface. This double action – the spring snap and the reverse pressure assist – creates a very reliable seal against unwanted backflow.
